10 Texting initialisms that make me LOL

30 November 2007 3 Comments

Attention parents: There’s a new “slanguage” out there, used for text and SMS messaging, featuring initialisms and crazy capital letter combinations that leave many of us over 25 scratching our heads. These abbreviations are now so mainstream that the Oxford English Dictionary began including them in its 2001 edition. Here are 10 (plus one) that put a smiley on my face:

  1. ROTFLUTS – Rolling on the floor laughing, unable to speak

  2. SIS – Snickering in silence

  3. T+ – Think positive

  4. MTFBWU – May the force be with you

  5. GBTW – Get back to work

  6. IANAL – I am not a lawyer (but…)

  7. GGP – Got to go pee

  8. KPC – Keeping parents clueless

  9.  YRYOCC – You’re running your own cuckoo clock

  10. WOMBAT – Waste of money, brains and time

  11. POS – Parent over shoulder (of course, my fav)

Bonus: Five smileys that crack me up:

  1. :-( $) – Put your money where your mouth is

  2. :-# – Smiley with braces

  3. {:-) – Toupee smiley

  4. :-! – Foot in mouth

  5. :-& – Tongue-tied

Attention teens and tweens: I’d like to compile a list of the 10 most useful texting abbreviations for parents who don’t do a lot of texting. Please make any suggestions in the comments area. THX
