Do you play video games with your kids?
My friend Paul sent me this link about the number of parents who play video games with their kids. I have to admit, I haven’t done this much lately. Until this month. We received a wonderful TV-plug-in miniature golf game from my brother for Christmas, and the whole family has been playing the Pirate’s Cove course like crazy. The graphics are straight out of Atari and the ’80s, and it’s a leisurely pace, but it truly feels like you’re standing on a tiny astroturf putting green, playing real putt-putt golf. (Who needs a Wii?) But all this is a far cry from Halo. My fear is that by the time my kids are teens, they will have skills — gaming skills — and I will not. Then my children won’t want to play with me. How does a busy parent stay current in gaming without investing a ton of time? Something to ponder.

I think the secret may be practice practice practice! Play video games all day every day while they are at school and then maybe, just maybe, you will have a chance to keep up with them once they hit their teens! Perhaps another way to get them to play with you is to find strategy games where winners and losers are not determined by how fast you can hit the A/B buttons. Find games which will allow you to employ your superior intellect skills to keep them on their heels.
Unfortunately, my superior intellect doesn’t seem to be doing the trick either–as I have been defeated on “Are You Smarter than a Fifth Grader?” (in the category of first grade grammar!).
